a cool night and i'm on my porch trying to grab a little reading. my mind is cluttered and i can't concentrate on any of the books i've agreed to read. too much going on.
i actually have five on the table, which is way too many, and which contributes to the general scrambled nature of my brain as i read. i try to concentrate on each one as i read it, remembering what i've already read, putting it together, etc., but if i find one too difficult to latch onto, i switch over to another.
one i've just agreed to read, so i don't have to start it yet, and haven't. three, were all on the same schedule, an unfortunate accident, but one happened just as i agreed to read another, etc., and they just kind of piled up. these are fairly substantial reading, so i overextended myself. i picked the short one, the last, just to get my mind off the other three but it didn't work, as it has a number of grammatical problems and it's just irritating to read that kind of thing sometimes.
it's true, though, that i needed a break from writing and i'm also finally getting busy with sorting and packing all the junk we have around. i've now reached the stage where i'm dealing with computers. we have about six or seven, some totally dead, some working but ancient, that i have to deal with. i've never felt good about putting such a thing at the bottom of a dumpster but it's either that, or pack them and take them with, or find someone who knows what to do with them. all three are impossible, it seems. some of the old ones have really cool things on them, too, but of course i don't have much time to find out.
along with the obsession with marketing is a healthy print order for quaker pamphlets, which have become popular in st. louis of all places and will eventually go around the world. the one i'm prining now is a forerunner of a better one which i will eventually pull together. this also is time consuming but gives me something to live for.
meanwhile the days are dry, windy, clear, fresh air for miles around. red flag weather, fire weather, everyone is on edge. whole sections of new mexico are going under. prayers are flying as new mexico is a very traditional, religious state. and lots of people are needing those prayers these days.
