when i was traveling, "out there" referred to traveling, being on the road as a lifestyle. it was the opposite of "working somewhere" or "home". then when i was single "out there" was a word for "single" - opposite of what is now called "hooked up" or "married," which i am, by the way. but there was one more sense that people used it in, back in the day, and that was, someone whose thinking was so far outside the norm that it was hard to even imagine. and that was good in some circles, vaguely threatening in others. or, just a way of life, depending on how long you'd been traveling, what you'd come to accept as possible, and what you'd used to point your way. for the most part, my life is the opposite now - i go to work, i raise kids, i help people adjust to a crazy world - but sometimes, i have to admit, my mind wanders. this site is dedicated to those who are "out there"...peace be with you - vaya con dios.
